The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church is the most dominant Christian denomination in Ethiopia. Until 1959, the Orthodox Tewahido church was part of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria (Egypt), however, became independent after that. The word Tewahido means “being made one” or “unified” in the Ge’ez language.
